PBBY celebrates National Children's Book Month with a host of activities for children's literature enthusiasts!

National Children's Book Day (NCBD) is celebrated every third Tuesday of July to commemorate the publication of Jose Rizal's "The Monkey and the Turtle" in Trubner's Oriental Record in London.

Awards

  • Salanga Prize

    Salanga Prize

    An annual competition on the best stories written for children in either English or Filipino. Named to honor the memory of Alfrredo Navarro Salanga, it is a benchmark of achievement for writers in the Philippine children’s literature industry.

  • Alcala Prize

    Alcala Prize

    The Alcala Prize is awarded to outstanding illustrators who are able to capture the heart and youthful charm of the Salanga prize-winning stories. Named in honor of Larry Alcala, it has opened a lot of doors for visual storytellers.

  • Wordless Book Prize

    Wordless Book Prize

    A wordless book, as its name suggests, relies solely on pictures to tell a story. Recognizing the dearth of local wordless children’s books, the PBBY established the first Wordless Picture Book Prize in the Philippines.
